The Ordinary Legends Podcast. David Brainerd
With some dear brothers and pastors at my church, I had the privilege of talking about the amazing Reverend David Brainerd, a missionary to the American Indians around the middle of the 18th century. Brainerd’s diary has been an unimaginably large influence on countless missionaries to take the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost. I truly hope you’re equipped, blessed and encouraged to that same end by our talk today. Brainerd’s life and diary was not only a blessing to countless missionaries and pastors in history, but a true blessing to me in my own life decades ago as my wife and I answered a call to the missionary work of a US Army chaplain.
Here are the two books referenced in today’s talk, the link to the Idlewild Student page, and one additional audio sermon on Brainerd that in many ways shaped my walk with Christ some twenty years ago:
1) “The Life and Diary of David Brainerd” by Jonathan Edwards.
2) “Ten Who Changed the World” by Danny Akin.
3) I’d also love to commend to you the following audio sermon about the life of David Brainerd, along with the whole series “Men of Whom the World Was Not Worthy” by John Piper here: https://www.desiringgod.org/messages/oh-that-i-may-never-loiter-on-my-heavenly-journey.
4) You can find the “Ordinary Legends” playlist, along with a lot more material from these fellas at the Idlewild.students page on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/@idlewild.students.
God bless!!!
